Introducing A New Mini-Mogul Interview Series

I just launched a new podcast series called The Looney Executive Mid-Atlantic Emerging Growth Series.

It's a podcast interview series where I have discussions with emerging growth Mini-Moguls in the Mid-Atlantic region that spans from Baltimore, MD down to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Portsmouth ... etc.)

Of course, I also interview financiers and representatives of organizations that provide assistance to these growth firms.

The focus of this limited-run series is to capture and present emerging growth Mini-Mogul inside stories, great successes, big blunders, Looney moments, lessons learned and much more.

For this short series, I'm especially focusing on emerging growth Mini-Moguls that operate in a technology-related sector.

Introducing An Emerging Mini-Mogul

This week I have the pleasure of introducing you to Russell Thomas.

Russell is the CEO of a tech firm called Communications Scientific, based in Glen Burnie Maryland. This Mini-Mogul leads a company that primarily does business in the government tech arena, especially communications kind of stuff.

The company is also moving into the information technology space with a new contract with a local state government.

In the interest of full disclosure, emerging Mini-Mogul Russell recently brought me in on a short-term contract to assist with some strategic issues in the expansion and growth of the firm. This was well after our interview had already been completed.

Childhood Mini-Mogul

This Mini-Mogul had a couple of key experiences in his childhood that paved the way for his move into the Mini-Mogul hood.

First, as an 8-year old and at the behest of his step-father, Russell peddled candy bars in Norfolk, VA. He went door-to-door to sell those delicious chocolate treats.

According to Mini-Mogul Russell, he learned to use his charms as an 8-year old to relieve those adult pockets of all that heavy change and re-direct it gracefully into his own pockets.

A few short years later, Mini-Mogul Russell also worked as an independent newspaper peddler in downtown. He and his teenage Mini-Mogul cohorts would buy the papers for a few cents and then resell them for a few more cents. His big treat would be to buy a pop (known as a soda to those not from the Mid-West!) and a hotdog.

A treat never tastes so good as when you really earn it!

Now his job is to build Communications Scientific into a fast-growth success story.

Maybe the stakes have changed a little, from candy bars and newspapers to hi-tech gear and components, but the treat of moving into the Mini-Mogul hood has never been sweeter!

I'm sure Mini-Mogul Russell would agree.
