The Best Entertainment Franchise Moguls

These Moguls Make Money While Sleeping!

I recently came across an article from The New York Times commemorating the 100 birthday of Ian Fleming.

For those of you under the age of, say 40, Ian Fleming is the Mogul that created James Bond.

For those of you under, say 40, James Bond is a fictional British super-spy that always kills the bad guys, and always gets the beautiful woman.

According to the article, there have been 22 bond films, not including the upcoming film to be released in late 2008.

The James Bond films have probably been the most enduring movie franchise ever.

I hope I'm not mis-speaking here but I think that's correct.

Anyway, it's every Mogul's dream to create an everlasting franchise. One that lives on in near immortality. Forever and ever ... throwing big huge bucks into our bank accounts.

A virtual money machine really!

So I started thinking about other lucrative franchises.

And, just to get the conversation started, I've created a short list of the best known franchises, and the Moguls behind them.

I have many more to add to this list. I'll also try to provide some "revenue generated" numbers soon.

But here's a question for you: What franchise (these or any other) do you think has been the most profitable?

Surely, as movies go, James Bond most profitable...which other franchise has so much product out there? But the concept certainly remains popular...Spiderman, Batman, Superman -- comic series, TV show, Movies, then another TV show, then Smallville--, now Ironman, plus Die Hard I, II, & III, the Indiana Jones movies and Young Indie Tv show, Jason Bourne series, and on and on and on! Whew! When Americans get hooked on a character...they really get hooked!

desert blondie there's no question that James Bond has probably been the most prolific movie franchise out there. It has almost two dozen films, countless books, merchandise, video games .. etc.!

But I'm wondering if Star Wars and Star Trek, as franchises, might be more profitable and more prolific with products. It will be interesting to see what the numbers say. I'll see what I can dig up soon.

And I think it's every studio's dream to create an everlasting franchise ... the next Spiderman or Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings ... etc!

Not to mention the Law and Order and CSI franchises on TV!
